Curriculum

Curriculum Intent

At our school, we provide a broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum that enables all pupils to develop the knowledge, skills and understanding required to succeed in education, employment and life. We recognise that many of our pupils have experienced barriers to learning and therefore design a curriculum that is nurturing, inclusive and responsive to individual needs whilst maintaining high aspirations for every learner. Our core curriculums are sequenced to ensure that foundational knowledge gaps are covered and gaps in key learning are filled enabling our pupils to bridge the gap and access an age appropriate curriculum with clear end points. Curriculum development was informed by the latest science on cognition taking account of overload, the importance of retrieval and how children really learn.

From Key Stage 2 through to Key Stage 4, our curriculum is structured to develop confidence, resilience, independence and a lifelong love of learning. We aim to equip pupils with the literacy, numeracy and communication skills needed to access learning across all subjects and participate fully in society. Our curriculums have been developed to provide clarity on key learning and progress steps delivered with pedagogical approaches that focus on the active ingredients that make the difference to learning.

Our curriculum promotes academic achievement alongside personal growth. Through carefully planned learning experiences, pupils develop emotional regulation, positive relationships, self-awareness and the ability to make informed decisions. We place equal importance on wellbeing, character development and preparation for adulthood, ensuring pupils leave us as confident, responsible and capable young people. Our academic curriculum is therefore underpinned by our emotional curriculum and PHSE programme.

We provide meaningful opportunities for pupils to:
